I’m a Manchester United fan so this post is going to hurt. Firstly, congratulations to Barcelona for winning the Champions League final this morning. They were a class above. Ouch.
Secondly, I wanted to acknowledge the great work that Barcelona do with Unicef and the lessons that could be learnt for some of our own sports teams in Australia.
The Barcelona club was founded in 1899. Up until 2006 they had never had a primary jumper sponsor (that’s the big logo on the front of their shirt). As sport turned professional and …

Last Saturday night I had the pleasure to go to my virgin Crusty Demons show. It was obvious from the start when I pulled into the parking lot with my little Renault Clio… this wasn’t my scene.
This was an event for blokes who have broken at least two ribs, has at least one piece of clothing with a Fox Racing logo in it, know the difference between a carburetor and a crankshaft, salute with ‘devil horns‘ and tells his mates that they ’suck dick’ at least once a week. And …

Next time you’re at the breakfast table with your partner, try this: collect a bowl of popcorn and tip it all over their newspaper. See if you get a reaction.

I’m not sure who is more to blame here – Fairfax or MBF? Whatever the case, it’s bloody annoying and both deserved to get scolded with hot coffee for treating their audience like this.

I have had the privilege of contributing to Julian Cole’s blog, Adspace Pioneers, while he is cruising through the USA Thelma & Louise style. Anyway, my post is about developing personality in your social media profile and it explains this photo…

Next time you take the rubbish out at work make sure you stop at the leaking wooden cellar door. Jar it open. Stoop down and pop your head in. Watch the cobwebs. See that gut in the far, dark corner with the hunched back and uncontrollable twitch who’s making intermittent yelping noises? That’s your scientist. Or in marketing terms, your research and developer. Go make friends with them. You might need them soon.
In the past, these guys haven’t received too much attention. They made stuff. People bought it. And they …

After all of the media discussion we’ve had about sex and respect for women in league this week, do you think the Courier-Mail could have picked a better home page story for today?

And what’s that down there… right down in the bottom corner there?

Lucky. I thought he was a rugby league player. He could have been crucified.

Honestly, how good is Gerry Harvey at television advertising? He’s not a major sponsor or partner of MasterChef but still manages to get in-program exposure. Amazing.

Many of you would be aware of the collaborative post between Matt Granfield and myself questioning the allocation of $14.7m to Starlight’s Livewire project and my subsequent letter to Senator Conroy asking for a breakdown in costs.
Last week, to my surprise, I received a response. But the surprise was not in the content but in how I received it. Remember, this was a response from the Minister for Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy. He sent it via the postal system (postage paid and all) and from his assistant secretary …

The most common question I get asked when I talk about our social media monitoring software is, “can it monitor Facebook? You know, the largest social media site with over 200 million users?” The answer is “No. Well, not a majority of it”. Great sales pitch huh?
It’s true. But it would be like asking Media Monitors whether they can record telephone conversations, scan postal mail or follow your wife around town. Not only would it be difficult to do but it is also illegal. Facebook is a closed network for …
