What to do with a box of CD’s?
I’ve lugged this box of CD’s to four different houses over the last four years and have never unpacked it. There’s no need. All the music I want is now on my computer. So the time has come to make a decision and I need your help.
What should I do with these artifacts?
a) Send them back to record labels for them to provide me a DRM free copy Apple style
b) Set up a stall at the markets right next to the record collectors to freak them out
c) Use them for research on how to turn the worlds waste CD’s into solar panels
d) Keep them for my kids so that they appreciate “real music, not this noise”
e) Throw out the CD’s but keep the cardboard box to fill with external hard drives
UPDATE: There have been additional suggestions:
f) Throw out the cases and mae them into fancy beer coasters (from Daniel Oyston and Rob Fraser)
g) Play throw and catch with the dog – may lead to puppy blindness (from Lucio Ribeiro)
h) Set yourself a challenge and replace them all with vinyl (from Cathie aka acatinatree)
i) Donate them to charity (from Cathie aka acatinatree)
Any other suggestions?

How about getting rid of the cases but keeping the CDs. Then bundle the CD’s into groups of 4 and give them away to people as “coasters”.
Everyone’s a winner. You get rid of them and people get a present.
I fully expect you to send a set of “coasters” to Daniel Oyston, GPO Box1561 CANBERRA ACT 2601 … In fact I will be disappointed if you don’t
@Daniel See that Best of Tom Jones CD on top there – that’s all yours! I’m sure there are three other Tom Jones CD’s in there to complete your coaster collection.
It’s only when I see someone else’s pile of CDs that I realise what an idiot I am.
I probably own three times that many, mainly bought in the UK.
When I moved to Dubai, I laboriously brought them with me, over several trips. Then when I left, I paid for them to be shipped back to the UK.
Then I paid all over again to ship them from the UK to Australia with me. And do you know what? Two and a half years later most of them are still in the packing case.
Cheers,
Tim – Mumbrella
I know what you mean Tim – so many memories. It’s too hard to let them go but such a waste of space/money.
On a side note, looks like I’m an inspiration for Lifehacker. This was published one day after this post: http://www.lifehacker.com.au/tips/2009/02/11/dear_lifehacker_what_should_i_do_with_my_old_cds.html. Freaky.
I have a box just like that in the top of my wardrobe.
I feel like I don’t feel sentimental and yet I can’t seem to throw them out.
Let me know when you figure out what to do with yours
NO!!! I want the Tom Jones CD – he truly is a SEX BOMB!
*ahem*
I like the idea of giving them to charity.
Or you could award them as prizes for charitable acts.
Or exchange them for cool stuff.
Mail me a CD and I will send you something of equal value.
I will also make a donation to the charity of your choice…
Put them in the microwave one at a time (remove them from the cases first). Hours of fun..
Ant and Dec are going head to head in a sing off.
The single is for charity… everyone support Dec!
