Not pissed as in drunk- that would be irresponsible. Pissed as in angry.
Over the past five years, licensed pubs and clubs have had Australia’s morale compass pointed directly at them for the apparent increase in the Australian binge drinking culture. On the other hand, retailers have escaped relatively unaffected.

It’s rare to go into a bottle-o and pick up a discount on a single item these days. Just like when you find yourself coming out of a servo with three Mars bars and a two bottles of Coke, we have to …

I am colour blind. Have been for as long as trees have had green trunks and brown leaves. However, my first job was as a paint mixer at Big W – go figure.
Do you know what the hardest part of being colour blind is?
Trying to buy ripe fruit.

For me black marks on bananas = ready to eat.
Morale of my story: The obvious is not always obvious for the oblivious. Who are your oblivious?

Digital radio. It’s radio as you know it, plus… whatever we want to make of it. That’s what I got out of Commercial Radio Australia’s digital roadshow that arrived in Brisbane this week.
Digital radio is set to launch on May 1, 2009. The CRA have been hard at work putting all the elements together for launch, starting off with the new logo above and the positioning line “it’s radio as you know it, plus”.
Personally I think the logo looks like the Red Cross for smurfs but anyway…

Brand Fails »

Before I’d entered the office today I received a phone call from my girlfriend asking if I had lost money from the Commonwealth Bank doubling up my transactions. And then I heard it on the radio. And then on the online news sites.
“Fantastic,” I thought. “I didn’t overdraw my bills account because of my adhoc purchasing of a giant rubber band. It was the banks fault.”
So, like tens of thousands of Australians this morning, I logged onto the Commonwealth Bank site to check my account. I was greeted by this …

Wow. I’m writing today’s blog from under a tarpaulin while eating baked beans cooked over a fire.
Really? No, not really.
This week Brisbane has been hammered by some of the most severe storms I’ve seen in my six years here. I’ve been fortunate and escaped any damage (although I did get to drive through hail last night). However, others have not been so lucky.
With storms dominating our one and only newspaper, The Courier-Mail, insurance companies have decided to get innovative and personal. It’s topical press ad time… whoop-a-de-do!
Here’s an example of …

Is there any difference between a brand that we believe in and a brand we WANT to believe in?

And if there is a difference, does the difference matter? As long as we believe, is it a success?
The example that immediately comes to mind is Baz Luhrmann’s new epic Australia.

When I first heard Big Baz was embarking on this project I was an immediate fan. A fan of Baz. A fan of the themes. A fan of an epic story based in Australia. A fan of Hugh. A fan of small …

I’m going to pop the cherry gently.
I was going to make my first post a nice introduction to myself and how I intend to influence marketing history, reverse poverty and reincarnate Bert Newton with this blog – but I won’t.
With 175,000 blogs created every day (that’s 2 created every second!) this first post is as significant as Adelaide Now’s most read article for today.
Hmmm… hyperlinks. I am very pleased with myself.
With SO many blogs out there – why have I chosen to put the mess in my head into the …
